Questions & Answers
when you become a member of aarp do u automatically get life insurance? if so how much? My mother is convinced she can't get a life insurance policy (just for burial purposes) because she has degenerative disc disease and that it would be too expensive.
I know people who have heart conditions (including relatives) who died and their family had life insurance for them. She has no life ins on her but my father has it on him. All my siblings including myself have gotten into arguments with her because we don't want to have to foot all the bills after she has passed away and we equally don't think my father should take out a loan to pay for her burial.
I've seen these commercials with AARP through New York Life stating that regardless of age or health condition you can get a $10,000 policy. Are there such policies out there and can I get a policy on her without her knowing about it? I want to do this to have a peace of mind and don't want to see my father go through all these stressful things when she passes away. Do I need her SS# to do this?
My husband and myself has AARP life insurance polices on us..I have crohns disease and my husband has COPD and degenerative disk disease , and they have insurance on us.They don,t or didn,t ask us any questions.I have a 14,000 each on us,it cost 37.00 per month each, but $10,000 is plenty to bury someone. You could probably take one out on her,but I don,t know if you could do it without her knowledge unless you signed her name, but it is well worth it because its going to fall on you and other siblings if she don,t have insurance .If you do this then make yourself beneficiary,so you can bury her.....yes you will need her date of birth and her SS# but you should be able to get that from her without her knowing why...
Health Insurance Options? My grandmother (65) and Grandfather (63) have AARP Life Insurance, and Medicare, and looking for someone to have Secondary Health Insurance with. Would it be best to have it with AARP since they have Life Insurance with them? Or should they get it from someone else for cheaper? We live in TX
It really depends. You want to have the most benefit for the money. If you buy the AARP supplement for let's say, $100, but it doesn't cover any of the doctors they see regularly, they just wasted that $100. BUT, if another plan costs $250 and it covers every doctor they see for anything, then the extra $150 is WELL worth it!
My advice - do a little research. First check to make sure any doctor they see more than once a year is on the plan as a participating or preferred provider - that will reduce their out of pocket greatly. Then make sure it will cover anything else they need - if they have a condition that requires a yearly test - like a heart condition and a stress test - make sure that would be covered. It's all about getting the most for the money.
Good luck!!!
when you become a member of aarp do u automatically get life insurance? if so how much? @qaa_question
No, you don't. You would have to apply for life insurance offered by an associate company.
How do I find out if my Life Insurance policy is good? I keep hearing all the horror stories of Life Insurance policies being no good. I have a policy through AARP and New York Life. Does anyone know of a way I can check with someone regarding the dependability of my policy.
It's not that the policies aren't good, it's that it's one that doesn't really fit your needs. New York Life has been around since the 19th century, they're a solid company. The policies, like aarp, that are sold thru insurance companies are usually very basic, like enough for burial expenses or to cover your spouse for a while. If you're worried, contact either a local NYL agent, (find one in the phone book and they will have the NYL logo in their ad) or call the NYL home office in new york directly and they will give you the number of agent to help you understand the policy you have. It doesn't cost anything to have an agent contact you, as long as you don't buy another policy from him/her.
Does anyone know anything about Life Insurance? I heard on the news that some life insurances might be in trouble..especially if they dealt with AIG. I have life insurance with AARP...Please tell me if I am in danger of losing it....What is the matter with people...Why are they so evil and greedy???
How would I find out if my Life Insurance si still good??
First of all a little background:
AARP is an association, not an insurance company. The members of AARP can purchase insurance from certain companies such as The Hartford, sometimes at a discounted rate.
Look at your insurance policy to determine what insurance company issued the policy. After you know the name of the company, contact your state Insurance Department to check out the company. If there are concerns about the company's liquidity, the Insurance Department should have that information.
