    Questions & Answers

Disney owns ABC - Knbc los angeles disclaimer?
I prefer to watch my local channel 7 in Los angeles (KABC) for my local news. Atleast 3 times in every hour - some 'news story' gets mentioned where the tv anchors have to make an announcement that Disney is the parent compnay of KABC. Why?

KABC will disclaim that Disney owns them to be up front on a story regarding its parent company Disney, so they are being honest in that there may or may not be a conflict of interest reporting on their owners, Disney. This is done to avoid the perception of bias had they chosen not to disclaim Disney ownership.

What are some tips on becoming a very successful journalist and what will be my salary if I worked f
I am determined to become one of the most prominent news journalists ever. I want to go to Cornell University to major in a degree in journalism. I then want to go KNBC-TV in Los Angeles and work as an reporter and an anchor. Then I want to work for NBC News as an Chief Foreign or White House correspondent for Today Show and NBC Nightly News. Then my options are wide open. My first step are I want to anchor the Today Show for a few years. Then I want to called up to anchor NBC Nightly News or ABC World News Tonight. Which should I do? If there is a breaking story and I want to be level-headed and straightfoward and stay on air for as long as I can to report people the news. I also want to anchor polictial party conventions, moderate presidential debates, and anchor presidential elections. I want to report on war stories. I want to be known as a very hard journalist. I do not think celebrities deserved to interviewed. They are stupid, idiot biscuits who think they are better than people.

I applaud your determination and narrowing down on your choices. Journalism is a fun, interesting, competitive and down right nasty business. Everyone want to be on top and you need to be willing to run over people (your friends-collagues) when an opportunity rises. One thing is for sure is that you need to be in a fairly large city! DO MANY INTERNSHIPS AS POSSIBLE. not just do them so you have something to put on your resume, but do them to get an experience and networking. Networking is the key. After doing an internship, call the people you worked with once or twice a month and see how they are doing and go for lunch. Don't be fake, be genuine! 90% of the reporters who get a job at a network like ABC or NBC is through networking. No matter how good of a reporter you maybe, you need people like managers and other reporters to support you. Sad to say but good looks (physically) is also a must to be in front of the camera. And finally, in addition to Cornell, if I were you, I would definetly look into Syracuse University as well. These days they are the top school in Journalism and majority of journalists have either graduated from Syracuse or have connections there big time. best of luck
