Are Acer laptops a good buy for the money?
I'm investing in one for my 13 year old for Christmas..we saw one at Wal Mart and were very impressed by the design and appearance..but now, what are your experiences with Acer? Pros and cons? Thanks in advance.
I've had an acer for a year and a half, no matter what people say mine works fine and I haven't experienced any problems.

You can't really judge a laptop - or anything - by its brand alone these days. Gone are the days when you could guarantee that something would work brilliantly, simply because it was a Sony or Panasonic, etc.
It very much depends on the actual model itself. One Acer laptop could be fantastic, then the next model could be horrendous. You're better off looking for individual model reviews.
I have an Acer and it's brilliant, yet my friend has a Sony Vaio (which you would think would be better) and I hate using it. The touchpad is awful to use and seriously unresponsive, it's slower in general and the screen isn't as good as mine - to name a few things.
Also, if you're concerned about how long the actual laptop will last, it's pretty pointless as you can't upgrade laptops in order to move with the times. Today, a laptop can be obselete almost as soon as you've bought it. Technology advances at a frighteningly fast pace these days. I'm on my second Vista laptop already, and I imagine I will only have that for a year at the most.
When you buy a laptop, just make sure the basic specs are good before considering anything else, ie. amount of RAM (2GB required for a decent performance on Vista); processor type and speed (avoid Intel Celeron at all costs, and go for Core 2 Duo, if possible); and finally the amount of hard-drive space. If you're heavily into music and movie downloads, you should be aiming for 200GB+ of storage space. Graphics are also pretty important if you're into gaming... then again, if gaming's your thing then I wouldn't recommend a laptop at all! The graphics cards cannot perform anywhere near as well as a dedicated graphics card in a desktop PC.
The laptop specs you provided are pretty decent specs. Do some research on the actual model itself if you want an idea of how it will perform. You shouldn't generalise based on its make, nor should you listen to people who think the brand 'is bad'.
Do Acer laptops good and efficient?
I want to buy 2 laptops, wife and me. She is a college student and so do I, but i do it online. Also we do music and I do family finances and regular stuff.
Walmart has Acer laptops very cheap and it's tempting, but i have read a couple of comments that they are slow and bad. I need some serious pro insight. And if I dont go with that one, which one is a good choice? Other than Dell; i really want to avoid that brand.
I know i would have to upgrade to a new computer in 2 years, so i want to have than in mind to so i dont spend a lot of money
yes they are very good computers i have one right now i bought and there amazing i say there better then some laptops out there, and the only reason why its slow is because of the RAM upgrade your ram and you will be flying and multitasking like crazy!
