Questions & Answers
Can I run Canon Imaging software from Adobe Acrobat or Reader on my mac? OK I have an imac G3 running OS 9.22 at 350 mHz. The software I downloaded for my mac to work with my Canon digital camera will work, but only as a plug-in of Adobe Photoshop. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would presume Adobe Reader and Acrobat contain much of the same working as Photoshop as they all do similar tasks. If I were to download Reader or Acrobat, would that be enough to run the Canon software and bring my pictures onto my iMac?
I knew that. Maybe I don't want to right now. Perhaps I don't want to be a mindless zombie slave to the concept of planned obsolesence.
You might find other software but it will not be Acrobat. For handling the photo will need some sort of Graphics program (like photoshop), that will allow the manipulation of image files (like JPEG and TIFF and BMP). Acrobat is basically just a publishing program that will allow you to make/read PDF files.
You will need a program that will accept "photoshop plug ins". The two others come to mind are GraphicsConverter (shareware but will work with OS9) and GIMP (freeware but I think it will only work with OSX). If you go with OSX, you can also use Apple iPhoto, which there should be a free version somewhere on the OSX installation disks (under other or optional program).
Alternatively you can probably do it manually. If you plug the camera into you iMac (via USB) and turn the camera on, the camera should mount as a removable drive (this will work in OSX and I suspect it will also work in OS9). Then you can move the image of the camera like moving files off a removable drive.
How do I assign Adobe Acrobat as my defaut PDF reader for Mac? I have Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Pro and I want that to open any PDFs as opposed to Preview. I'm so used to using Windows where you can select from a list of programs & click a box "always open files with this program" and Mac doesn't have that. It will only open that one specified file in Acrobat, but not the rest :(
Mac OS does have an option to let you set a default program to open specific file types. I've outlined the steps below:
1. Find a PDF document on your computer and then click on it so that it becomes highlighted.
2. From the menu bar, click File > Get Info (or press ⌘+I on your keyboard) to bring up the Information panel. If you're using a two-button mouse, you could also right-click and select "Get Info" from the list.
3. In the Info panel, focus your attention to the label "Open With". If you can't see any options underneath this label, click on the twister (little grey triangle) to reveal it.
4. The Info panel is where you set a default applications to open documents. Continue by clicking the drop-down menu underneath the "Open With" label and select Adobe Acrobat from the list. To ensure that Acrobat opens all PDF documents in future, click the "Change All" button. A dialog box will appear asking you if you're sure, click "Continue" to confirm and you're done.
5. Close the Info panel.
How do you set Adobe Acrobat Reader as default PDF viewer on a Mac? @qaa_question
control click on the file. Go to get info. look for something that says "open with". select Adobe reader. Hit change all.
