Can I run Canon Imaging software from Adobe Acrobat or Reader on my mac?
OK I have an imac G3 running OS 9.22 at 350 mHz. The software I downloaded for my mac to work with my Canon digital camera will work, but only as a plug-in of Adobe Photoshop. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would presume Adobe Reader and Acrobat contain much of the same working as Photoshop as they all do similar tasks. If I were to download Reader or Acrobat, would that be enough to run the Canon software and bring my pictures onto my iMac?
I knew that. Maybe I don't want to right now. Perhaps I don't want to be a mindless zombie slave to the concept of planned obsolesence.
You might find other software but it will not be Acrobat. For handling the photo will need some sort of Graphics program (like photoshop), that will allow the manipulation of image files (like JPEG and TIFF and BMP). Acrobat is basically just a publishing program that will allow you to make/read PDF files.
You will need a program that will accept "photoshop plug ins". The two others come to mind are GraphicsConverter (shareware but will work with OS9) and GIMP (freeware but I think it will only work with OSX). If you go with OSX, you can also use Apple iPhoto, which there should be a free version somewhere on the OSX installation disks (under other or optional program).
Alternatively you can probably do it manually. If you plug the camera into you iMac (via USB) and turn the camera on, the camera should mount as a removable drive (this will work in OSX and I suspect it will also work in OS9). Then you can move the image of the camera like moving files off a removable drive.

control click on the file. Go to get info. look for something that says "open with". select Adobe reader. Hit change all.
Odd error message when using Adobe Acrobat Reader and Firefox on the Macintosh, where is this fixed?
On the Mac OS X 10.3.9 when using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.8 and Firefox 2.0.0.1, when downloading a PDF, it gives an error message of "...Could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences."
This was working fine on previous versions of Firefox and Acrobat, and it seems after a Acrobat upgrade I get this error message each time I try to download a PDF. After pressing "OK", it shows in the download Retry, and after clicking Retry then the file downloads. From what I have found the error message is coming from Firefox, but I don't see a setting there to change, nor one in Adobe Acrobat. If you have had this problem or have a good way to solve it, kindly post your reply.
Go to the "Firefox" menu in the top left, then click "Preferences." Go to the "Content" tab, and hit the button at the bottom that says "Manage." In the search field at the top, type "pdf." (I split off in my directions at this point, so read whichever paragraph applies to you.)
If you see anything in the box below, select it and hit the "Change Action" button, then click the second radio button. It will ask you to select an application. Navigate to Acrobat and hit OK.
If you don't see anything in the box below after your search, double click the list (with nothing in it, of course.) It will ask you to select an application. Navigate to Acrobat and hit OK.
