Questions & Answers
How strict is Aer Lingus with the cabin baggage weight requirement? In a couple of days my wife and I will be traveling from Dublin to Barcelona via Aer Lingus and we are worried about the 6kg weight requirement for cabin baggage (carry-ons). How strict is Aer Lingus with this requirement? Do they weigh every baggage taken into the cabin? Or would it be possible to take a couple more kilos into the carry-on luggages?
Aer Lingus will now charge extra for every bag checked on their within Europe (not trans-Atlantic) flights. Tran-Atlantic passengers will still be able to check 2 bags at no charge. The airline has also cut back on its trans-Atlantic baggage weight limits, with passengers allowed a maximum of 80 pounds of checked luggage in two bags (the previous weight was 100 pounds in two bags).
Aer Lingus is also restricting carry-on bags to a 6kg (13lb) limit on all flights (including trans-Atlantic) and limiting the size to 18"x14"x9" (22"x14"x9" is the more common allowable size).
Solution: If you have resisted packing light for travel, perhaps the above will change your thinking
Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items.
All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:
Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 22in x 18in x 10in (56cms x 45cms x 25cms)
Maximum Weight of Carry-on Luggage: 13 lb (6 kg)
Checked Baggage Allowance: 2 Pieces
Maximum Weight for Each Bag: 70 lb (32 kg)
Maximum Combined Weight for Economy Class to/from the U.S.: 80 lb (36 kg)
Maximum Combined Weight for Premier Class to/from the U.S.: 140 lb (64 kg)
Maximum Combined Weight for Economy Class to/from Dubai: 44 lb (20 kg)
Maximum Combined Weight for Premier Class to/from Dubai: 66 lb (30 kg)
Aer lingus baggage terms, wording Was wondering if anyone has recently flown aer lingus from the US to the UK. Some of the wording I'm not clear on.
"A maximum of 2 Bags per passenger. A maximum of 36kgs (80lbs) in total weight between two bags when weighed together."
"For Aer Lingus journeys between North America and UK/Europe, the baggage allowance for North America flights will apply to the entire journey within two weeks of initial departure date."
Does this mean the total weight for one way is only 40lbs if the return flight is within 2 weeks of the departure?
No, you can bring 80lbs.
What that means is if you bought a complex ticket such as:
Paris-Dublin (several days pass) Dublin-Boston
...then as long as the "(several days pass)" is less than 2 weeks, you can bring the 80lbs on your Paris-Dublin flight, instead of the normally-lower limits for flights within Europe.
baggage allowance aer lingus? I am travelling from the states to Glasgow, Scotland in a couple of weeks using aer lingus, but there is a connecting flight in Dublin. im planning to take two suitcases and carry-on-luggage, but I am worried that I am not allowed to take on two suitcases in Dublin because it is an internal flight?
please help!
When you check in for your flight in the States, you're checked through all the way to Glasgow (Unless, of course, you bought your tickets as two separate purchases -- the US to Dublin and Dublin to Glasgow -- rather than one flight from the US to Glasgow. Which I'm assuming you didn't.) That means that your baggage is also checked all the way through to Glasgow, and so the baggage policy you follow is the one for international flights, not internal flights (regardless of the fact that you will, actually, be taking one during one leg of your journey.)
Since Aer Lingus' baggage policy for international flights is two checked bags (weighing not more than a total of 80lbs), you're fine. (I'm assuming you're flying in economy class. If you're actually flying Business or First, you can go up to a combined weight of 140lbs. Lucky you!)
Now as for your carry-on baggage, you're only allowed one piece whether you're flying internationally or internally, and it can't weight more than 13lbs or be bigger than 22in x 18in x 10in. (Women are allowed a small purse or handbag in addition to this, and you must observe the US-based rules of the TSA -- no liquids over 3oz etc etc.)

Hope that helps -- have a great flight!
