Questions & Answers
Is there a site to compare Medicare insurance with Aetna medicare insurance? I am trying to find out if changing from Medicare to Medicare Aetna will be a good move for my mother. I would like to hear from anyone with an experience with this.
She needs something if she is just on original Medicare without any kind of supplement. Aetna, along with many other companies, has Medicare Advantage plans and/or Medicare Supplements available. These plans will pay what Medicare won't pay. Medicare has a $1024 per occurrence Part A deductible and a $135 yearly Part B deductible and the plans will cover that deductible. Some plans will have a co-pay and some won't.
All Medicare Supplements are standardized and are exactly the same from company to company, the only difference is premium. The Medicare Advantage plans have a template from Medicare they must follow but have different co-pays as well as different premiums.
It is very complicated; you'll need to visit a local independent agent that works with all the major senior plans in your mom's area because the plans available are county specific. The agent can explain the plans and find one that best suits your mothers situation and budget. There is no extra charge using an agent.
You do have a time limit for changing. You have until March 31 or she'll be locked out of any changes until next year. Also, if she did not have a Part D prescription plan by January 1 she will not be able to get a plan that covers prescriptions until next year.
My mom is on social security and also receives medicare. Does the company Aetna control medicare pay I am concerned about a company which continues to bug my mom about her membership to this company Aetna. She says she has never subscribed to their company, yet they have her name and address and phone number. They keep saying she owes them a great deal of money. Mom is 87 years old. Will Medicare drop her because she wont deal with this company? I am a concerned daughter. They called her and said they will discontinue her coverage. Whats going on here?
No, Medicare will not drop her and the insurance company does not control Medicare payments.
However, you & your mom should contact Aetna (if your mom can't or doesn't want to talk to them she'll need to at least give her verbal permission for you to speak in her behalf if you don't have power of attorney). If she really hasn't been on any of their plans it might be a case of mistaken identity; someone else may have applied and the Medicare number may have been recorded wrong. However, since they have her name, address and phone number she may have signed up for one of their plans. I work with seniors and unfortunately sometimes they don't remember or forget which company they signed up with. You don't want to let this go because they can send her file to collections. Also, if she is on a plan with drug coverage and they drop her she may not be able to get on another plan until next year.
