Questions & Answers
does anyone who has an AMERICAN AIRLINES ADVANTAGE NUMBER know what YTD Elite Qualifying Miles are? and qualifying segments also?
It's the number of miles or segments (flights flown) that qualify you for elite status in the AAvantage frequent flyer program. YTD stands for year to date, and is the amount of miles you have accumulated during the calendar year toward elite status, you need either 25,000 miles flown or 30 segments to qualify for gold status, the first level in the elite program, here's the website:

American Airlines Advantage? My grandpa has been traveling from USA to his home country for like 20 years now. He has only traveled with American Airlines and travels atleast once a year. He gets those letters for american advantage in the mail but never asks someone to read them for him. I think he should be getting some benefits because he has traveled so much with american airlines. Does he have to sign up to get the benefits or is he automatically enrolled? What should i do to gain information about this?
if he gets the letters in the mail is he already signed up?
Here is the link:

I had to sign up to get the frequent flyer miles and rewards.
Edit:
To answer your question. My guess is that he is getting mail about he Advantage Visa Credit Card that is associated with American Airlines. I get about 1 per week.
If he is truly getting mail for being an Advantage Club member - then it should show his monthly points activity.
I know for certain that they do not sign you up automatically. You have to do it. If he does sign up, then he can also get rewards for hotel stays, car rentals and some other things if he chooses.
What is the purpose of Advantage miles in American Airlines, what do they do? Why do they exist? @qaa_question
The AAdvantage® program is American's travel awards program. It was the original travel awards program, established more than 20 years ago, and today is the world's largest program.
AAdvantage members earn miles each time they purchase an eligible published-fare ticket and fly on American Airlines®, AmericanConnection®, American Eagle® or any of our more than 21 airline partners. They also earn bonus miles for flying on an eligible purchased-fare Business Class or First Class ticket on American Airlines or any of our airline partners as follows:
An additional 25% of flight mileage flown in Business Class, or
An additional 50% of flight mileage flown in First Class.
In addition, members earn miles when staying at AAdvantage hotel partners or when renting a car from a partner company. Currently over 35 hotel partners representing more than 75 brands and all seven major car rental agencies are AAdvantage partners.
Because not everyone is a frequent traveler, miles can also be earned through non-travel-related partners including assorted financial and retail partners.
Miles can be redeemed for a variety of travel awards around the world on American Airlines, AmericanConnection, American Eagle and our airline partners.
