is it necessary to download and install apple/ itunes software updates on my ipod?

yes it is!! if you think of it like iTunes is the software that allows the computer to communicate with the iPod - you want to keep them both as up to date as possible. if iTunes is using one version and the iPod another - it can cause communictaion problems and a glitch down the road!!

I am looking for a software where I can easily get song info for my music. I want to get every bit information I can about each song to organize my iTunes better.
I am running a PC and really don't want to pay anything.
You can do it in itunes. Highlight the song you want info about and go to file......get info.
