It depends on where you're going for the flying Vs driving dilemna. If you're going to the South of France, which weather-wise will be much nicer you can get cheap flights from low cost airlines (£40 return). If you wanted to drive that distance, not only would you have the fuel and euro-tunnel charges etc, but also the stress of navigating in a foreign place and a day or two of your holiday travelling. But if you live in the south of england and want to go someonewhere in the north of France (i.e paris) then driving would probably be better.
My parents have two 6-borth static caravans in the South of France at a resort called Camping du Pylon which is in Biot not too far from Nice and Cannes, Monaco etc. There is an area for people to camp in tents and take touring caravans. The site is family orientated (no single sex groups allowed) there is a swimming pool and sport facilities. Nearby is a fun fair, Sea world, crazy golf and the sea is a 2 minute walk.
Carcasonne (south west france) is very nice and charming, I stayed at a small resort of gites (log cabins), there were sports facilities at the site and the area was lovely with modern and yet also oldy-worldy areas.
Hotels can be extorionately priced in certain parts, so if you're not able to find a camp site, have a look at gites. If you'd like more information please get in touch.
