How Old do you have to be to apply for a FAC?
Hey, Im 15 about to turn 16 and just wanted to know when i could get a FAC so i can buy a .22 to get rid of some of the pesky rabbits in my dads field. I live in England but my Dad lives in Scotland where the .22 would be kept. Also what would i need to get a shotgun license for clay pigeon and maybe some birds? Thanks for any help.
There is no minimum age for the grant of a shotgun certificate. The minimum age for a firearm certificate is 14.
My advice would be to apply for a co-terminous certificate so the dates of both licences run from the same time. £60 fee.
Does your Dad have a firearm certificate? If he does he will need to have a variation for the .22 rim fire. He would also need a shotgun certificate and have the gun on his cert. if he is in possession for 72 hours or more.
The shotgun cert is far easier to obtain. Reasonable cause would be clay pigeon shooting. For the FAC you have to prove you have the land to shoot over, the Police will check!
