Questions & Answers
Is it worth ones time to read the book "Iacocca" the autobiography by Lee Iacocca? When I was in the 11th grade in high school back in 1984 (don't laugh), my electronics instructor had a class on how one should get a job after high school. The class, for a minute, brought up the idea of success etc., etc., etc.. A book my instructor suggested that we read on our own (not mandatory) was "Iacocca" the autobiography. Now I know that this is 2009 and all, and the auto industry wants bailouts which is not Iacocca's fault of course. What I mean to ask, and forgive me here, is it worth my time to read that book or are the ideas/ideals outdated for the most part in that book? The way I took what my instructor said was, not only is that book an ideal book for a job and/or success attitude but also contains good philosophy's on life and a good way of thinking for the most part, etc., etc., etc.. I don't mean to sound naivete or anything; considering the situation the auto industry is in; but is that a good/worth wile book to read? I've been meaning to read it but haven't got around to reading it yet.
Haven't personally read it, but my father in law, who owns his own laboratory, really is smart and successful said he really enjoyed it, and greatly admired Iacocca. I actually was hoping to read it sometime also. Detroit needs another Lee Iacocca. You know that there was talk of him becoming president? That would have been good. He couldn't have been much worse than Bush Senior. Lol.
What do you think of Lee Iacocca's new book, "Where have all the leaders gone?"? First off, I was amazed he is still alive, second, I don't agree with him on all points, but on some, he is right on. Intelligent, informed opinions, please : ) Thanks!
suthernlyts...thanks for your thoughtful and serious response to this question...have you ever read a book in your life and do you know anything at all about the $7 million bail out that was paid back and saved 60,000 jobs? I didn't think so.
Lee Iacocca is a financial genius, administrative hero; his success with Chrysler speaks louder than words, when he brought company back on top from the ruins. Sure, people blame him for siding with Kevorkian in the attempt to acquire Chrysler, which essentially led to takeover by Daimler.
I read all his books and most of the books about him. I would listen to what he has to say – imagine his experience and connections, he knows all the back stage of politics and how things done – he spend his life soaking in that environment.
And what comes to mind when you trying to digest his statement about lack of competent leaders and about what happened to all intelligent and passionate? Your eyes open.
Would like to hear from those that have read Lee Iacocca's new book "Where Have All The Leaders I just finished it and would like to hear the thoughts of others.
I will say that it stirred me up a bit. Real good reading.
I am just on my way out to get the book! I heard it's a great wake-up call to not only the US, but the rest of the world.. Can't wait to get into it!
