A piece of advice, if you are buying smaller items aswell as flat pack etc, buy Ikea cardboard boxes and package up your smaller items into these boxes, when it comes to transporting them, its cheaper doing it this way as the charge is ...

How much does the lycksele or the grankulla base chair bed unit cost from Ikea UK?
Ikea's website is worthless. It tells you that you have to buy the mattress, cover, and unit seperately, but then never puts the base price for the chair bed unit on the website; it shows you the bundle price of several different mattresses. If you know what the base unit chair bed cost is, I would appreciate knowing.

No doubt about it ...Ikea flat pack furniture is better than similar products from Argos. Ikea products will last longer, are more robustly designed and tend to be made from better materials.
I have been very satisfied with Ikea products. I have had some OK products from Argos, but nothing to write home about. Focus DIY is also worth a look at, since I have bought some good solid flat pack furniture from them as well.
If any of the items you are interested in are on display (this is unlikely in Argos, but very possible in Focus and Ikea, don't be shy ...lean your weight on the units, open doors and try to twist the doors slightly, pull hard on unit tops, check for any movement that isn't supposed to happen. If the sales folk complain to you, what have they got to hide? (I used to work at a well known national furniture store which used to use blue tack to hide defects!!!)
