Questions & Answers
What trademark names is iolite known by? The gemstone iolite was offered as a ring last holiday season in a catalog for a well known retail store. What was the lovely trademarked name they used in that publication to sell the gem?
Iolite may be called as Cordierite .
Another ancient Greek name associated with the gem is ‘dichroite’ or two-colored rock.
Iolite was also known as ‘water sapphire’ in the ancient days .
In India the gem is known as ‘Kakaneeli’.
All the best :)

Do you think iolite will replace Tanzies? I mean Tanzanite will mine out, and iolite is the only thing that looks similar to tanzanite (w/o the red flashes). what do u think?
I suppose it's possible, but I wouldn't bank on it. Fashion is fickle. Tanzanite is popular right now, but may fall out of favor before the mines play out. That's what I'm hoping anyways, love that stuff.
What does Iolite look like? Can i have that on my engagement ring? @qaa_question
Iolite is a beautiful purple stone. Yes, you can have that as an engagement ring. You don't have to have a diamond. Mine was an aquamarine. My sister's was a sapphire. No law says you need a diamond.
