Questions & Answers
will jobsearch will blocklisted me if i cant come for the interview on the company that will hire me Is working in call center a regular jobs or only contractual?
Short answer to both, it depends and could possibly go either way.
First, on the Jobsearch Issue: It mainly depends on what the business reports to Jobsearch. While you are not required to go to an interview set up through Jobsearch it is expected that you will notify the interviewing company and give a reasonable explination as to why you can't interview. Accepting another job, medical situations (not cosmetic), or legitimate family emergencies are credible reasons. Social engagements or reasons are not. Even living too far away is not usually an acceptable reason as you should have thought of that before applying.
If you don't have a legitimate reason for missing the interview the hiring company could lodge a complaint with Jobsearch which could lead to your being blacklisted. The chance of this happening depends on how badly the company needs an employee and how much they paid for the service. (FYI, if you create a new account to get around the blacklist you could be sued by both Jobsearch and employers you apply for if you're caught)
Next, the Call Center: Every company is different and is governed by the laws of the state that they're doing business in. In most states, if you have mandatory hours you have to work (ie a work schedule) and you can lose your job for not showing up to work then you are a regular employee REGARDLESS of how you were hired or what the company calls you and are entitled to all the benefits of regular employment to include minimum wage (with a few exceptions). If, on the other hand, you set your own hours or can turn down work opportunities it's probably contractual.
An example concerning maintenance companies I work with: One company calls technicians at home to offer them jobs as they become available. These technicians have the option of accepting or declining the jobs depending on what they're doing that day (although they may not be at the top of the list of people to call if they decline a lot of jobs). This is contractual labor. The other company requires its technicians to drive around in a company vehicle until a job becomes available then the tech is dispatched to the job and can't decline it. This is regular employment, even though many of these people are considered to be contractors.
If you can provide more details as to the company and location I may be able to give you a more targeted answer.
Good Luck
I am a litigation attorney in nyc and I want to go into real estate transactions.Any good jobsearch I regularly check the job search websites and they are mostly legal placement positions. I have real estate experience but not in transactions, so I would need training/entry level position-any other helpful advice on how to get into this field?
Have you considered going to "school" and getting an education?
You scare me! Is this the quality of attorney you get in NYC?
