How do they determine order for tied teams in MLB standings?
I've been noticing lately that no matter who the Toronto Blue Jays are tied with they always are listed below whatever team they are tied with. This happens when the "games behind" is equal and the Win-Loss record is the same. Take a look at today's standings and let me know why Toronto is listed after New York.

1. Winning percentage -a team that is 6-4 has a better winning percentage than a team that is 7-5, but they would be tied as far a GB.
2. Alphabetical by city

on the yahoo mlb standings page, what does the number in parentheses next to the division leaders team name mean? Example: Red Sox (14)
Cleveland Idians (14)
Los Angeles Angels (13)
It's called the Magic Number. This is how Yahoo explains it: "The magic number represents the combination of wins by the leading team and losses by the second-place (or tied) team that would clinch the division title."

What does the "X" next to the Red Sox mean on the yahoo MLB standings page. Also what are the "y"'s next to the other teams?
x means clinched playoff berth
y means clinched division
