Open Office?
I recently downloaded Open Office Suite with every program. I was very please and impressed by their programs. Their like the mirror image of Microsoft Office. I didn't like the fact that it didn't have a program like Outlook, though I have Mozilla Thunderbird. But my question is, is there a way to have everything I create (word, presentation etc) automatically save as a Word or Powerpoint file? I want this because I do work for school and my school doesn't have open office so every time I use my flash drive to open a document created by open office it doesn't work. So can I just change is so its Word and Powerpoint even though its Impress and Writer! THANKS! I basically want to have the file extension change by auto!

Look under the options tab for the program you are in.

How can I get open office to stop auto formatting?
I am trying to type an outline on open office and whenever I try to put in a roman numeral open office deletes it and replaces it with a regular number. When I try to erase it and re-do it it just backspaces my stuff. How can I get it to stop auto-doing all this crap?

I just tried this in OO 2.3.1 and did not have any problem creating a numbered list with Roman numerals with everything set at the normal default. try a new document and keep the outline simple to start. Like this: I. Item one (then press ENTER) II. this is what I get when I do this. III. and this too. Once you have done this, try entering more information and using the Bulletts and Numbering toolbar buttons to promote and demote items. (this is a separate toolbar that will pop up when you have a list.) the list above will change to this if I choose the demote one level button for the second item. I. Item one (then press ENTER) 1. this is what I get when I do this. II. and this too. Hope this helps, otherwise try using the help system. OOHelp does have quite a few entries for outlining.

Open Office, Stepmania, and other blatent rip-offs. How do they get away with it?
I was just wondering about things like Open Office. It's almost an exact duplicate of Microsoft Office. Stepmania is almost exactly like Dance Dance Revolution. How are they allowed to make something so close without getting sued? Is it because these things are free?

It's called capitalism; pepsi is like coke, sprite is like 7up, tango is like fanta, to venture no further than drinks as an example. The VW polo is like the Peugeot 106 to give another example. As long as there are products people like, there are competitors who will try and emulate it. Open Office make their money from advertising, etc, and thats why they do it.
