X X ([e^]ks). X, the twenty-fourth letter of the English alphabet, has three sounds; a compound nonvocal sound (that of ks), as in wax; a compound vocal sound (that of gz), as in example; and, at the beginning of a word, a simple vocal sound (that of z), as in xanthic. See Guide to Pronunciation, [sect][sect] 217, 270, 271. [1913 Webster] Note: The form and value of X are from the Latin X, which is from the Greek [Chi], which in some Greek alphabets had the value of ks, though in the one now in common use it represents an aspirated sound of k. What are some good day trips that won't break the bank?
A few friends and I are taking a week off this summer to do some day trips, and we are taking along another friend who has recently lost her job. We don't want to do anything that will cost too much money (we'll already be spending plenty on gas!). Any ideas? I live close to Boston, MA if anyone in the area knows of someplace specific, but the ideas can be general if you're not from around here. We're already planning a few days in the city, probably museum-hopping, so we would like to spend the other days in a less city-like atmosphere. Thanks!

You got yourself Old Orchard Beach up there in New Hampshire somewheres. (Said in the raggadiest, 'r' dropping accent imaginable.) 'Scuse me, Southern Maine. There ya are: http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmIycG51BF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEc2VjA2ZwLWJ1dHRvbgRzbGsDbGluaw--#mvt=m&lat=42.93987&lon=-70.723665&zoom=10&q1=Boston%2C%20MA&q2=Old%20Orchard%20Beach%2C%20ME (Still using accent. Picture old man, rocking chair, prospector of the north type of guy.) Got yourself ol' Freeport, ME real near by too. With it's colonial ordinance and the LL Bean super store. Real pretty town, lots of stuff to do for a nice like day walk about. http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmIycG51BF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEc2VjA2ZwLWJ1dHRvbgRzbGsDbGluaw--#mvt=m&lat=43.10458&lon=-70.58785&zoom=10&q1=Boston%2C%20MA&q2=freeport%2C%20ME
