    Questions & Answers

    what is the active ingredient in coffee and tabasco hot sauce?..?
    @qaa_question

    I read this in the morning and did some research, a common ingredient in both is Tannin, a astringent from the fact they are but involved with the seeds of the plant, tabasco is ground tabasco peppers and salt, allowed to work in a barrel and then is added to vinegar and strained into bottles. Coffees, natural tannins come from the coffee bean and it essential oils, that is why sometimes old coffee has an oily film on it when it is cold, it also is found in red wines and certain fruits like grapes and even apples.

    What is your favorite recipe for hot wing sauce?
    As for me, I never measure ingredients, so it switches up the taste every time. I start with melting butter, then add Franks Red Hot and Tabasco Sauce. Then when that boils I add vinegar until I can't hardly stick my face near the pan any longer. Lastly, I add Blair's (right now I'm using Blair's Sudden Death). I add more or less Blair's depending on how brave I'm feeling (or how many beers I've had LOL). What are your favorite ingredients and recipes?

    Here's my favorite... 1/3 cup Louisiana (or Frank's) hot sauce 6 Tbsp butter 1 packet Good Seasonings Italian dressing mix Combine them all together on med-low heat until butter's melted. That mix should not be left out, it gives it a really good zip!

    How do I make BBQ sauce less sweet?
    I just followed a recipe in the paper today for BBQ sauce and it's coming out too sweet. I tried adding more tabasco but it's still too sweet. What can I add to take some sweetness away? Ingredients are: Brown sugar, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, onion, garlic, chili powder, tabasco, worchester sauce, water, canola oil...I think that was it (going from memory). Thanks!

    Cut it with a little more apple cider vinegar and Worchestershire. . .that will add more tartness and cut down on the sweet taste. Stay away from adding too much Tobasco because the end result is apt to be a sweet sauce that still rips your stomach out and hands it to you. If you have paprika, try adding some of that to the recipe, too. It adds just enough heat to counteract the sweetness without being overpowering.
