What sort of certification do you need to become a bartender in Texas (other than TABC certification
Will a bar hire a bartender that has no experience but does have certain certifications and/or licenses? If so, what certifications/licenses does one need?

not exactly sure how it works in texas, but up here in wisconsin you need to have to be 18 and have a server's permit (beverage operator's license...which you get through like a 3 hour online course at the local technical college). then the bar that you work at will usually train you a few nights. they'll show you the basics and how to make their signature drinks. it may be harder if you don't have the experience before hand, but you should probably do okay.

I just moved to texas and started bartending in Dallas and am new to the TABC rules. My new manager
the two busiest shifts of the week, Fri and Sat nights on the patio. I've been told that managers can't take part of tip share, that it's against TABC rules. Does anyone know if this is true?

The best way to find out is to ask TABC. Send them an email asking them this question. Here is the email address: questions@tabc.state.tx.us

What does a TABC Inspector look for? (Texas Liquor License)?
My grandparents have a bar. They have a beer and wine license that they're about to renew. I'm saving money to apply for the Liquor license, which I hear is nearly impossible to attain...what do these inspectors look for??

My inspector (IA) looked for things like underage serving, temp of the cooler, things were covered properly, garnishes weren't sitting out, dates on beer bottles, non-regulation wines without the correct stamps and not allowed in my liquor district. Then they made sure the back bar was clean, glasses were kept on those holey mats and not directly on the shelf, glasses had to be upside down. At least a 3 well sink with proper drainage. The soda gun was clean. Potable water at the bar. Hygiene practices like the bartender washing their hands. The solution in the washing sink was at the proper concentration. Paper towels and soap for the handwashing. They'll ask who all has access to the bar when the bartender's not there. There's probably more, but I'm forgetting since I retired. Oh, and when they give you those no underage drinking signs...POST THEM! That's a biggee.
