What kind of wood was Eddie Van Halen's '5150' guitar made of?
I'm wondering about the one from the mid-80s, as seen in the 'Hot For Teacher' video. The original Frankenstrat was swamp ash (I think), but I think the '5150' was either alder or basswood.. If anyone knows..
it's very light,it's made of basswood.
Looking for an 80's style guitar.?
In the 80's or thereabout there was a guitar that had some popularity. The body was shaped like a trapezoid and it didn't have a traditional head as the strings would originate at the top of the neck and then be wound at the base of the guitar itself. Geddy Lee from Rush played the bass version of this guitar and Eddie Van Halen had a 5150 design with this guitar for a little while himself. What the heck is the name of this guitar? Thanks. :)
I think that you're looking for a steinberger guitar. They were popular in the 80's, but the company still makes new models today. They're currently owned by Gibson.
