Any ideas on consolidating student loans?
I have a ton of student loans, that I've been deferring for financial reasons. I have federal loans with Sallie Mae and private loans with Wachovia/AES. Any ideas on how to put them all together so I have one monthly payment, to say a bank rather than various companies, like I have now? Any good banks I should try or talk with?
Your Federal Student Loans can not be consolidated with your Private Student Loans through the FFELP Consolidation Loan Program. In addition, if you were given the option to consolidate your Federal Student Loans and your Private Student Loans together I would not suggest doing so; if you did do this you would lose all your Federal Benefits on your Federal Student Loans.
You can consolidate your Federal Student Loans and your Private Student Loans separately though. If I were you I would keep in mind that July 1st is the interest rate change date every year, so it would be in your best interest to do so before July 1st. If you are interested in Private Student Loan Consolidation, I would wait until after July 1st when programs are expected to improve in that area.
One thing that you may be very interested in when dealing with your Federal Student Loans is; when you consolidate your Federal Student Loans together you not only lower your monthly payments, but you also reset your Deferment and Forbearance time to zero giving you a fresh 3 years of both. Trouble with my monthly student playment loans....?
I have 2 student loans, one for salliemae, and one for wachovia...My payments are $110/month, and I have $5000 left to pay. Unfortunately, I cannot afford $110 a month, is there anyone way I can take out a loan to pay off my students loans, and lower my monthly payments?
I doubt you would be able to get an unsecured loan with a lower interest rate than what you're paying on the student loan. Call the bank that does your student loan and let them know your situation. Most of the time they will work with you as long as you are willing to make some type of payment every month.
What agency arbitrates disputes between student loan holders and the loan institutions?
I was injured at work and have been on Workers Comp since and am not yet released to work. My student loan instituion (Wachovia) denies me a waiver from making payments by refusing to accept copies of my paystubs from my WC carrier documenting my income and saying that the paystub does not state that the figure is a GROSS amount. The WC carrier refuses to write a letter stating such to Wachovia. They say the amount is obviously the "gross amount" since no deductions are itemized or withheld from my WC check. Wachovia refuses to accept that . They gave me 2 years of waiver 1/05-1/07 using the exact same paystub verification and now refuse to accept the exact same documentation. Where can I appeal to get the Wachovia people (student loan institution) off my back during my recovery from my hip fracture and while I am on Workers Comp and unable to return to work? Thank you.
