Questions & Answers

Is Waddell & Reed a good place to work as a Financial Advisor?
I just graduated from DePaul University and I am looking to begin my career as a financial advisor. I would like to hear some opinions on Waddell & Reed. Is anybody familiar with salary information? Do they offer benefits? Is this a good opportunity to pursue or should I be looking somewhere else?

At Waddell & Reed you can apply your skills in an entrepreneurial, and highly supportive environment where you can achieve success. They pay a salary the first year depending on experience anywhere from $2000-$4000 a month with commission, and the allowances include clothing allowance, company car.

What is your experience at Waddell & Reed?
I am interviewing with Waddell and Reed next week and I am very excited about starting a new career with them. If there is anybody out there who works with W&R and can tell me about your experience and advice, I would appreciate it.

I worked for them from 1989 to 1992 in California; lots of study to get your federal and state securities license and pressure to excel. Had to run my job as a sole proprietor, paid all my taxes and almost went bankrupt. The most successful person in my division made about $26K and worked all of the time. My Division Manager was helpful but I wound up quitting after the first Gulf War because all of my working class clients redeemed their investments and thought that the economy was going bust. My parents always told me that this job was for a "rich person who has lots of $$". I would suggest going back to school and working full time for more education (junior college, business school, university). You will be happier in the long run.

is there really 100k+ possibilities with Waddell & Reed? How about any insurance or annuities?
I am good at sales but I am sick of being passed over during bonus periods for the bosses family!!! I have had job offers from insurance and investment companies and I just want to make the right decision for my family

There aren't necessarily bonuses, but you will know your commissions. Depending on the agency, they may offer bonuses but that is on an individual basis. Producers get paid.
