Questions & Answers
What kind of treatment program should a Xanax addict undergo? I was just wondering about this because I know there are a lot of treatment methods and programs available for illicit drug users. This made me think that surely there must be treatment options for people with Xanax addiction too.
There are indeed treatments available for those who are dependent upon Xanax. Xanax abuse treatment involves close monitoring along with counseling and various forms of therapies in outpatient or inpatient facilities. A good treatment would be one that encompasses a patient's thought process and behavior. This will help them in coping with daily life. Xanax abusers should be tapered off gradually. Inpatient treatment centers, as well as 12-step programs, will be very beneficial to the patient. Substitutes may also be used in drug treatment exchanges. The medications can be dangerous, though, so it has to be administered carefully by a physician in an inpatient treatment. When done correctly, it can propel the patient to reach a zero dose of Xanax or other benzodiazepines.
Xanax addiction? I have a condition called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, which is a type of nervous system disorder. As a result, my body produces excessive levels of adrenalin which has given me a heart arrhythmia. I also have an anxiety disorder and treatment-resistant depression, which makes things much worse. My doctor gave me Xanax--I take 2mg a day and have been taking it off and on since November 2005. It lowers the adrenalin levels and helps keep my heart calm. Recently, however, it has stopped working, and my heart now beats erratically from time to time. When I try to lower the dose, it gets worse, and I want to kill myself b/c I'm in so much agony. My doctor doesn't seem to understand the seriousness of my problem…what should I do? I also take atenolol to keep my heart rate down and Lexapro to help with anxiety and depression. Thanks!
My question is:
Should I keep on upping the dose or try to get off of it? What goes up must come down, so increasing the dose will only make things worse in the long run. I can't decide!!!
Your body will adjust to your medications over time decreasing their effectiveness, however, Xanax is a narcotic making it very dangerous for you to play with the dosage. If you dont feel like your doctor is helping you and taking you seriously see another physician. It may be beneficial for you to see a Psych/ Pain Management office. They specialize in managing those kinds of medications and conditions safely and affectively. be strong it'll get better. Best of luck!
Is Xanax consumption considered as a drug addiction? Our family physician prescribed Xanax for my mom's tension and panic attacks. Lately, I've noticed that she's taking in more than what's required. Is my mom a drug abuser? Does she need treatment?
If your mom's consuming more Xanax than what's prescribed by the doctor, then she may be abusing it. Although Xanax has beneficial effects, over consumption of it also has negative effects. I think it's time to intervene with your mother. I'll post some sites where you can find tips for intervention and lists of rehabs that may provide treatment.
