The Y chromosome is one of the sex-determining chromosomes in humans and most other mammals. In mammals, it contains the gene SRY, which triggers testis development, thus determining maleness. Overview Most mammals have one pair of sex chromosomes...

How is it that Mitochondrial Eve and Y-Chromosome Adam were not partners?
Just trying to grasp that idea. Also, would Mitochondrial Eve for JUST males be the mate of Y-Chromosome Adam?

    She was Jewish.

Just how useful is the Y chromosome as a population tracking gene?
It's generally assumed that Y chromosome Adam existed prior to the human expansion out of Africa. But if this quote from an article I read is true, are we only tracking the expansion of a superior mutation, not a population movement? "The Y chromosome was once thought to be devoid of genetic information. However, recent work shows that it contains numerous genes related to sperm production and dimorphic traits (such as body size and tooth development). Among mammals, these traits influence a male's competitive ability in male–male contests and in sperm competition. Therefore, sexual selection could have favoured genes on the Y chromosome that enhance male fertilization success because they spread unaltered through the male line. We could easily be chasing a Y chromosome that spread just because it produced more motile sperm. http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/repro/rebi/2003/00000007/00000001/art00005 http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=979421 I get how it works Willing Thinker, it's the neutrality of the chromosome I'm disputing. If you decided to study the European gene for lactose distribtion, you could come to the conclusion that our population all originated from some point near the Black Sea, 8k years ago. Since the bulk of our specie's mutations are African, we can't really dispute that they contributed most of our ancestry, it's just using one or two bit's of non neutral DNA as irrefutable proof that there were no minority contributors from outside Africa that grates. Also use it to date the expansion is ridiculous. Really, they need to pick a bunch of proven neutral gene markers to study, and run them through a good computer simulation to find the best scenario. Blakker than thou, they've found X chromosomes in Europe and Asia that don't came from Africa, and they estimate the seperation to be ANCIENT.

The truth is human populations migrate. It is impossible to tell (unless you have actual fossils with DNA I suppose) where the traits came from. You could map the genes on a map and still the degree of uncertainty would still be high. A superior mutation could move independent of actual tribal movements also. It might spread like a wild fire accross a population over thousands of years. I am skeptical of those that claim to be able to track it. It seems more likely they are simply paying homage to the Out of Africa Theory that seems to be a requirement in some circles of anthropology.

Scientifically speaking, did Adam consist of both an X and Y chromosome, even when the X chromosome
All males are created with the X and Y chromosme, with the x chromosome being derived from the female. If Adam was the first born human, would that mean that he didn't contain the XY pair, and also did Eve suffer from Turner syndrome, where she only contained the XO chromosome, since she wasn't born from a female? "Im glad your questioning things in life, more people need to do so." Thanks. I'm a Muslim, and my faith allows me to question every teaching, so that's what I do to find answers.

Hello, djmasseeh21 You have a very intelligent and smart question, and we have a surprising answer. The “XY” chromosome contains the entire energetic circuit carrying information that flows in the net of a natural system. If you take the matrix of a closed system you can see only two flows: a surface full circular flow surrounding the system and an internal half-cycle. The full flow has totality of the informations about the system, and all of these informations have equal force for expression: it is the “X”. - the internal half-circle have also the totality of information but only the informations about the middle-left side are expressed: it is the “Y” . The above knowledge about general system theory give to us the answer for your question: Adam had the “X” chromosome? If not, from where Eve and the females descendants got it?! We are discovering that living beings are natural systems developed by Evolution from non-living natural systems, like atoms, astronomy, etc… The last non-living system (but, semi-living since that it has the fundamentals process of life) was the matrix of astronomic systems. It was reproducing by a process like sexual reproduction but it was hermaphrodite, having the two flows of information. The matrix of astronomic system seems a kind of paradise for matter and its forces: optimum thermodynamic state in equilibrium, flow at high speed generating friction like orgasm, and recycling its own mass and energy, it has the grateful food “the mannah” falling into its mouth all time. But, the picture of that “our last common ancestor seems a serpent enrolled in a spiral and swelling its tail. Ok. The above picture we got by logical and rational humans’ means with the method of comparative anatomy between natural systems. It is describing the situation of the world about 10 billions years ago. Now, if you notice the “serpent”, the “Paradise”, the circuits XY and put name to them ( like Adam and Eve), you got the same history and “parabola” that we, surprising, find in the Bible. I don’t know how this extremis and extraordinary coincidence happened, don’t ask it to me. My Science is not enough for to answer it. BY the way, our method suggests that the transformation of that astronomic matrix into a living cell system was by a simple genetic process, when the closed system that was at the sky was attacked by entropy and its “bits-information” fells to Earth surface. If you had the serpent, the paradise, Adam and Even, now we have also “The Fall”. I think this would be a complete response explaining where the “X” chromosome was at the times of Adam… but, never forget that we have no ultimate true, only a theory that, at least for us, makes sense. Cheers,
