Why would a restaurant NOT be listed in the NY Zagat restaurant survey guide?
Some very good restaurants are not listed in the annual Zagat guide. Does anyone know why?
There are quite a few fine NY restaurants that aren't included in Zagat's. They're good, they've been around for years, and I can't imagine they pefer not to be included. So, what is the reason they're not listed? Do restaurants pay for the listing? I don't think so. Do reviewers not eat there? Nah. Does Zagat have something against them? Does it have anything to do with the quality of their food or service? For all NYC gourmands who rely on Zagat, this is a burning question. Does any one know the real reason?
1) The place is new.
2) It is not well known and hasn't made a name for itself. This is not necessarily bad, because it might be a hidden gem.
3) It is a bad restaurant.
Realistically, though, Zagats can't rate every place in New York City. Otherwise, the book would be huge.
