Questions & Answers

How do I build my credit? I dont have a bank account or a credit car.?
What exactly do I need to do to build it up. I want to get a ring from Zales Jewelery but they wont approve me for a Zales card. I make 400 dollars every two weeks. Please tell me what I need to do so I can get a ring.

I agree with what the 1st poster is saying about getting a secured credit card, BUT that's only part of it. You really should open a checking and a savings account. I work at a credit card company and I have to make decisions to approve or deny people everyday, and where I see people go wrong is they try to find a quick fix to either build or rebuild credit. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Zales, Helzberg's, Kay, Jared, and Bailey, Banks & Biddle are some of the toughest places to get approved for credit, and that's just for jewelry. Even if you did get approved for it, chances are the interest alone wouldn't be worth it. If you make $400 every 2 weeks, then that means roughly $800 month. Right now, the ring can wait. If you're wanting to build credit the RIGHT way my suggestion would be to first open a checking and a savings account. This way, not only you can properly manage and budget your money, but also develop a banking relationship which will help you get loans and credit cards later down the line by being a good customer with the bank. A lot of major banks and credit unions offer secured credit cards, which are credit cards that are backed by savings accounts basically. How it works is that you deposit money into a savings account which is used as collateral for a credit card. For example, if you deposit $200, then your credit limit would be $200. These are the easiest credit cards to get since you would be baring the risk by putting up the deposit. Also, with a secured card you can increase the credit limit by adding to the deposit. Keep in mind that the deposit isn't used to repay the card, unless it went to collections, you'd still have to pay back whatever's used on the card. The key would be to make small purchases on the card (like $15-20/month) that you can pay off on time. Continue to do that every month while increasing the credit limit by adding to the deposit $50 or so. Usually after a year, of paying on time and keeping the balance paid, a regular credit card is offered and the deposit is given back. You could use the deposit to pay for part of the ring outright and then finance the rest, depending on how much it is. I posted several links to secured credit card companies that can help I thank you for reading and good luck!
